From the early 1950's there were two kiosks on the Speke estate.   One kiosk was located at the end of Western Avenue at the bus terminus and served as a cafe or tea shop where all the bus drivers and conductors used to get their morning cuppa.    The other kiosk came later and was located at the end of Eastern Avenue. These ladies served at the Western Avenue kiosk.

Admin note;

Vinny Edwards, an ex Speke lad, brought it to our attention that the pictures that we showed as Western Avenue were in fact pictures of the Eastern Avenue kiosk.....thanks Vinny...we were wrong. All sorted now.

Murial on the right with friend Mary. Both of these ladies used to serve at the Western Avenue kiosk.

These lovely pictures were sent to us by Ian McDonnell a former Speke resident now residing in Australia. Shown in the picture are two bus drivers and the two ladies from the Western Avenue Kiosk.      Murial Proffitt is the lady on the left and also the aunt of Ian and she worked at the kiosk from 1950 - 1954.   Ian used to live at 70 Little Heath Road, Speke from 1950 - 1960 until he went to Australia to live.

Ian was baptised at All Saints Church in 1948 and his parents were married there in 1946.

If you know Ian or any other information about the subjects in the picture he would love to hear from you and may be contacted at;     glor_ian@optusnet.com.au
