The
old airport terminus has been turned into a luxury hotel and the three
hangers have been converted for business. The original
structure has been maintained. Also on site is a grand restaurant.
The fire station
nearby has been closed down some years ago. The rest of
the old airfield contains many various businesses and is called the
Estuary Business Park. Across the road, where there was
once a timber yard and part of fords stock yard, there are many big
name businesses such as Argos, Botts chemist, Comet, Curry's, Halfords,MFI,
and B&Q have a huge warehouse there. There is also a
McDonalds and PC World have a big store there. There are
many more and they are still building. This site is called
the new Mersey retail park.
Work on the Morrison
super store will commence in October, the first phase will be the store
and the trolley bays. This will be on the North East corner of Ganworth
Road.
When work is due
to commence on the other side of Tarbock Road, the residents in the
blocks of flats will be found alternate accommodation, and the lfats
will be demolished. to make way for a petrol station, health centre,
shops and a bus terminus, Tarbock Road between Ganworth Road and Conleach
Road will be closed permanently, more news and pictures when they become
available.
I mentioned previously
that the Speke Central shopping area would eventually be converted into
football and rugby pitches, this apparently has been changed, the shopkeepers
have been told that the site will be taken over bySpeke Market, unfortunately
there is very little information on this, we dont know if it will be
permanent, or an open market or closed in, once more information is
available on this subject I will let you know.
