sadly Bill passed away recently but I believe that he would want this portion of the site to remain
He will be missed by many of the expats who visit his page.

Yes, much is happening in Speke the shops in the central parade will be replaced by playing pitches, there will be a new shopping precinct near the Ford road, some of the flats in Millwood road will be demolished to make way for an approach road, to the shops, it is said that Morrisons will be opening a super store at the end of Speke Park.

The Park has been taken over by Speke early learning centre, which has been renamed Parkland. Comprising a new school to take the place of Speke comp; and the school has been renamed Parklands High School, there is also a new library, social services, Liverpool Direct, one stop shop, a new Community Centre,a nursery, adventure playground, sports centre, South Liverpool Housing, and other facilities.

There will be small parks situated around Speke at selected spots. Much is happening in Speke. Vandalism is still done, but Speke is no worse than any other estate.

South Liverpool Housing have installed new central heating and renovated kitchens and bathrooms.

The old airport terminus has been turned into a luxury hotel and the three hangers have been converted for business.   The original structure has been maintained. Also on site is a grand restaurant.
The fire station nearby has been closed down some years ago.   The rest of the old airfield contains many various businesses and is called the Estuary Business Park.   Across the road, where there was once a timber yard and part of fords stock yard, there are many big name businesses such as Argos, Botts chemist, Comet, Curry's, Halfords,MFI, and B&Q have a huge warehouse there.   There is also a McDonalds and PC World have a big store there.   There are many more and they are still building.  This site is called the new Mersey retail park.
Work on the Morrison super store will commence in October, the first phase will be the store and the trolley bays. This will be on the North East corner of Ganworth Road.
When work is due to commence on the other side of Tarbock Road, the residents in the blocks of flats will be found alternate accommodation, and the lfats will be demolished. to make way for a petrol station, health centre, shops and a bus terminus, Tarbock Road between Ganworth Road and Conleach Road will be closed permanently, more news and pictures when they become available.
I mentioned previously that the Speke Central shopping area would eventually be converted into football and rugby pitches, this apparently has been changed, the shopkeepers have been told that the site will be taken over bySpeke Market, unfortunately there is very little information on this, we dont know if it will be permanent, or an open market or closed in, once more information is available on this subject I will let you know.
